A webshop with product calculators that enable users to modify and calculate the price for a specific piece they want to order from manufacturing. It has detailed possible input fields for specifications. A B2B business that wanted to digitalize their ordering and create a better experience for their clients. I designed the design system from scratch and created the design concept for their website. From there I worked on the design system for the website and the calculators. Everything else fell into place very quickly after that.
The biggest challenge was creating a coherent design system for the website, eCommerce, and the specification wizards themselves. All of these had to have a similar design but required different grids and compositions. The flows themselves for the calculator needed a lot of work because they contained a lot of dependencies for the actual outcome. The challenge was thinking about all edge cases and how to nudge the user in the right direction for similar products that could solve his problem while still allowing him a great deal of flexibility when specificating his own product and calculating the price for it per piece.
The client wanted a B2B oriented design concept for the website and the calculators that had a minimal technical feel and could allow for future iterations on the website and the calculators themselves. I wanted to construct a specific design system that had components built for both the website and the calculators and the eCommerce shop and then start constructing the experience from there. The option to always upgrade the calculators was needed and we needed a design that could allow for some bars and panels to disappear while still retaining a similar composition.
